As a long-time fan of the Jurassic Park/World series, I was excited to watch Jurassic World Rebirth on the big screen. While I enjoyed the dinosaur thrills and a few edge-of-the-seat moments, the storyline felt repetitive and predictable, once again featuring a greedy corporation, an expedition team, a forbidden island, and a survival race after things go wrong.

The plot centers on a team sent by ParkerGenix to collect biomaterial samples from the three biggest dinosaurs to cure heart disease. The team consists of Martin K from ParkerGenix, Zora, who is an ex-military personnel, Dr. Henry – the Paleontologist (who is lured into the mission to experience his love – the dinosaurs – in flesh and blood), Duncan (an old friend of Zora), LeClerc – the boat driver, Nina – as a boat helper, and Bobby as Security Chief. Along the way, they rescue a family (a man cruising on the same ocean water along with his two daughters – Isabella and Teresa, and Teresa’s boyfriend Xavier), attacked by a Mosasaurus, face dangers on the island while collecting the needed samples, gets attacked by the mutated and ‘rejected’ dinosaur species who were left behind on this island by InGen and eventually escape after fighting off mutated raptors and a new predator, Distortus Rex.

After the ‘greedy’ Martin was eaten up by Distortus Rex, Zora and Henry decided to release the cure as open-source, ending on a noble note.

The cinematography is, as usual, unbeatable. Since 1993, we have been made to believe the world with the dinosaurs around us.

What was missing?

  • The iconic rain, which always adds to the thrill,
  • A hint at future sequels, and
  • Any returning characters from earlier films (which, I read, was a deliberate decision)

And you know what always makes me wonder? I leave my home for two weeks, and something or the other always breaks down—a light, or the RO machine. But in the Jurassic series, an abandoned research facility somehow always has power, flares, and even some packed food! Even the underground tunnels are all clean and unclogged drain openings!

While it delivers familiar dinosaur action, there’s nothing truly new. Die-hard fans might still enjoy it, but perhaps it’s time the series takes a final bow—unless it can bring something fresh to the table.

Our verdict: 3/5
